Ed Barks works with corporate and association executives who deal with reporters and members of Congress, and with public affairs experts who want a seat at the decision-making table.
His clients say he “knows how to elicit peak performance.” They call him “a master at connecting with his audience” and “an effective educator,” and give his communications training workshops “two thumbs up!”
Ed has served as President of Barks Communications since 1997. He has taught more than 3000 business leaders, association executives, government officials, non-profit leaders, physicians, athletes, entertainers, and public relations staff how to work with the media, deliver great presentations, and present winning legislative and regulatory testimony.
He is the author of The Truth About Public Speaking: The Three Keys to Great Presentations. He has also written the training guide Face the Press with Confidence: The Media Interview Companion and the report, “Can We Talk Off the Record? Resolving Disagreements, Increasing Understanding Between Reporters and Public Relations Practitioners.”
He is also the former monthly “Speaking Sense” columnist for the Washington Business Journal, and a frequent contributor to leading industry publications.
Ed earned his expertise in the Washington, D.C., public relations arena, where he has directed efforts dealing with such critical areas as media training, media relations, public speaking, and Congressional testimony.
In addition, he logged over a decade as a radio broadcaster, news director, talk show host, and reporter. That knowledge allows Ed to share the inside scoop on how reporters work, what they need, and when they need it.
Also of note, he frequently collaborates with leading public relations agencies, medical education firms, and government relations shops, helping their clients effectively communicate their messages.
