Barks Lauds Committee Team when Receiving National Press Club Award

The National Press Club recognized the volunteer services of Barks Communications President Ed Barks with one of its esteemed Vivian Awards at a ceremony this evening.

Club President Donna Leinwand presented the honor in recognition of work done by of the club’s Communications and Marketing Committee, which Barks chaired in 2009.

“This is a team award,” Barks emphasized. “It speaks to the good work the members of our Communications and Marketing Committee have done over the past year. I am proud of what we were able to accomplish together. Our committee vastly increased and diversified its membership in 2009 and began to pursue initiatives that will bear fruit in 2010.”

“We have set a solid foundation that future committee leaders can build upon in years to come,” Barks said. He is stepping down as committee chair following his election to the club’s board of governors last month.

The Vivian Awards are named in honor of 1982 club president Vivian Vahlberg, the first woman to serve as president. She began the tradition of giving awards to volunteers who demonstrate hard work and dedication. Succeeding club presidents have continued the practice, presenting Vivian Awards as their terms end to members who volunteer their time and talent for the betterment of the club and its members.

Ed Barks works with corporate and association executives who deal with reporters and members of Congress, and with public affairs experts who want a seat at the decision-making table. The former radio broadcaster is the author of The Truth About Public Speaking: The Three Keys to Great Presentations. As President of Barks Communications since 1997, he has taught more than 3000 business leaders, association executives, government officials, athletes, entertainers, non-profit executives, and public relations staff how to succeed when they deal with the media, deliver presentations, and testify before government officials.
