National Press Club Honors Barks for Service
The National Press Club bestowed one of its esteemed Vivian Award on Barks Communications President Ed Barks at a ceremony last evening.
Barks was recognized by club President Jonathan Salant for his 2006 contributions as a member of the Communications and Marketing Committee. In that capacity, Barks provided public speaking and media training counsel and expertise.
“I am most grateful for this recognition,” said Barks, a club member since 2000, “particularly since it comes from the cream of the media crop—the leadership of the National Press Club.
“I am committed to upholding the reputation of the National Press Club as the place where news happens in the nation’s capital,” he added, “and to making it an even better place for reporters and their sources to take advantage of professional development opportunities and social activities.”
The Vivian Awards are named in honor of 1982 club president Vivian Vahlberg, the first woman to serve as president. She began the tradition of giving awards to volunteers who demonstrate hard work and dedication. Succeeding club presidents have continued the practice, presenting Vivian Awards as their terms end to members who volunteer their time and talent for the betterment of the club and its members. Forty-five individuals received Vivian Awards for 2006.
