Barks Judges Houston Public Relations Awards

How can a Washington, D.C. area communications firm come to the aid of its peers in Texas? Barks Communications demonstrated how this week by serving on a judging panel for awards sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

Company President Edward J. Barks lent his expertise to the panel that passed judgement on submissions by the PRSA's Houston chapter for its Excalibur Awards.

"This represents a win for everyone," Barks noted. "The Houston contestants had their awards judged by an impartial and professional panel. In addition, Barks clients will benefit from some of the fresh ideas we witnessed.

"At Barks, we are always looking for educational opportunities that will help us pass along valuable knowledge to our clients. Reviewing these entries planted some seeds that will bear fruit for months and years to come."

Each year, PRSA chapters nationwide swap awards nominations with other chapters. The awards cover various categories such as media relations, publications, and marketing. Barks, a member of PRSA's National Capital Chapter, offered his perspectives based on his years of experience working both in public affairs and in the media.

"It was refreshing to witness some of the innovative ideas being implemented by colleagues in another part of the country," said Barks. "Whoever believes the phrase, 'there's nothing new under the sun' never had the opportunity to judge these awards."

Barks Communications specializes in media, public speaking, and legislative and regulatory testimony training for businesses, associations, and non-profit organizations. In addition, company President Ed Barks offers motivational remarks to groups seeking greater benefits from their communications efforts.
