ASTD Chapter Appoints Barks to Board of Directors
The Metro DC Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) has named Barks Communications President Edward J. Barks to its Board of Directors.
"The learning I gain as a result of participating in ASTD proves most beneficial to my clients." Barks said. "It inspires me to develop even more effective trainings.
"I'm pleased to be able to give something back to the organization, and look forward to helping our members find ways to maximize the benefits they receive from their membership," he continued.
Barks will serve as Director of Communications, a volunteer position, for the chapter based in the nation's capital. In that capacity, he takes on responsibility for outreach efforts to members. He directs the chapter's web site (www.dcastd.org); its quarterly newsletter, "The Torch;" and its e-mail communications. He assumes his new duties immediately.
"Given Ed's extensive background in the field of communications training, he is the perfect fit to lead this strategic role in managing all aspects of communication for the chapter," said Metro DC ASTD President Kimo Kippen. "Ed will oversee a team of volunteers focused on providing critical communication services internally to our members. In addition, he will help shape and execute our external communication strategy."
"Communicating with our members is vital," Barks added. "It is our duty to get them the information they need when they need it. In addition, we must be more forceful in highlighting the benefits members earn. Whether seeking new clients or a new job, I want the Metro DC ASTD to become our members' number one resource."
The Metro DC Chapter of ASTD is an association of professionals who focus on training in the workplace. It numbers approximately 650 members.
Barks Communications specializes in media, presentation skills, and legislative and regulatory testimony training for business, association, government, and non-profit leaders. In addition, company President Ed Barks speaks before groups seeking to sharpen their communications skills. The firm also operates Barkscomm.com, the Internet's Communications Training Resource, at www.barkscomm.com.
