PRSA Selects Barks Article for "Best of" Reference

A how-to article authored by Barks Communications President Edward J. Barks won honors as one of the "best of the best" from the Public Relations Society of America's (PRSA) PR Tactics magazine.

The article, "Preparing for A Congressional Testimony," appears in a new PRSA book entitled, The Best of PR Tactics: A Workbook.

"I am particularly excited that the article PRSA decided to honor centers on Congressional testimony," Barks commented. "Testifying before a legislative or regulatory panel is far too important a communications objective to be left to chance, as many organizations do.

"At Barks, we are fully committed to providing top quality communications training workshops tailored to suit each client's individual needs," he stressed. "This article's inclusion is a validation from the nation's premier public relations professional society that tells me we are hitting the mark for the benefit of our clients."

The book's editors chose the cream of the crop from articles appearing over the last five years in PRSA's flagship publication PR Tactics. Barks' article was originally published in March 1998. The book will debut at PRSA's 1999 International Conference in Anaheim, California, October 22-26.

"We coach our clients how to win when they testify before Congress, their legislature, or a regulatory body," Barks continued. "They have the right to demand that we shape a workshop unique to their needs. I'm proud to say that's par for the course at Barks."

PR Tactics editor in chief John Elsasser points out that the "provocative" articles contained in the book "reflect the growth and change in crucial areas of professional development." He foresees the book becoming "an invaluable resource for everyone involved in the profession" of public relations.

The Best of Public Relations Tactics (soft cover, 234 pages) is available for $34.95 ($29.95 for PRSA members; $24.95 for students) from PRSA's Professional Practice Center (PPC), 33 Irving Place, New York, N.Y. 10003. To order, call (212) 460-1459 or visit the PPC online at www.prsa.org.
